A beautiful, weighty piece that is attributed to Bert Dickerson for the Markel Electric Company during the Art Deco period. This is a wonderful re-issue of the original design and would look perfect in a bedroom, living room or study as a desk light.
This handmade light has been produced from 100% solid brass and plated with chrome, which means that it won’t pit or rust. Only the best materials have been used in the production of this lamp. The craftsmanship and skill required to make this lamp are extremely high. Like the others in this lighting collection, this lamp is of museum quality – so much so that these lamps are being seen as heirlooms for future generations and collectors’ items.
The lights in this collection have been made entirely by hand, using traditional techniques that are now dying out. The sheer level of skill and precision required to make just one component takes years to perfect. To make each part of a lamp, a wooden mould has to be made for it first. This is an incredibly difficult and lengthy process, where one tiny slip would result in the wooden mould having to be made again. Some lamps require as many as 20 moulds.
A metal disk is then held against the mould and special tools are used to spin the metal to the shape of the mould. This process requires a steady hand and great skill, especially because brass hardens quickly. Once all the components of the lamp have been made, they are assembled, then highly polished and plated with chrome, nickel, silver or gold – according to the customer’s wishes.
Matching wall, ceiling and floor lights for the home or for bars, restaurants, hotels, clubs, boardrooms and superyachts can also be made. These modern designs can be customised, so, for instance, the wire can be made to come out of the base. Bespoke lighting, particularly contemporary, Art Deco or machine age in style, can also be made to suit a client’s wishes. Please contact us for more information about this service.
